Challenge: Training A Qualified Workforce
Providing
the SKILLS to Change
A group of Bonnabel High School students are on
a career fast track, thanks to the Greater New
Orleans New Car Dealers' Auto Tech Academy.
"Your
brain fixes the car these days," says Auto Tech
instructor Greg Folse. "Your hands don't fix the
car anymore."
This innovative public/private partnership is
preparing local kids for high paying, specialized
jobs, and the challenges of a dynamic industry.
"Working on cars is more or less a science," says
Auto Tech student Damon Gucchia.
It's a road map for the future, as we face the
challenge of training, and keeping, a well-paid
work force.
"I
want to stay in Louisiana and one day own my own
car dealership," says Auto Tech student Anthony
Cucchia.
And that's really steering the "Challenge to Change"
"All of our new car dealers in the area are really
partners in this," Folse says.
