About the "Challenge to Change"

Metro New Orleans has many natural resources and features that keep locals from leaving. But it also has an economy that has lagged far behind its sister cities in the South. That’s why WWL-TV is launching this special “Eye on Our Future” initiative. It began Monday September 10, with a forum of community leaders from business, education and politics discussing what it will take to attract more business and create new jobs to spur our Metro area economy.

Over the coming months you will see special “Eye on Our Future” reports on Eyewitness News Nightwatch at 10pm on Tuesdays. These stories will focus on what it is going to take to turn our metro area around; what other growing cities of the South are doing right; and what legislation and local ordinances are needed to help attract and keep jobs in the Metro area. We will also look at what it will take to improve schools and instill in children the value of an education. These “Eye on Our Future” stories will be updated as part of our continuing coverage of major economic and education initiatives from inception to implementation.

In addition to the “Eye on Our Future” special reports, the Monday Eyewtness Morning News will feature a segment discussing the pros and cons of economic development ideas. Also keep an eye on this website for more on the “Eye on Our Future” effort. This is where you will find: links that will give you more background and contacts for our stories; a place to write us with your own ideas for improving the economy and information about what’s coming up in our special reports.

Creating a vibrant economy in Metro New Orleans will benefit everyone who lives here. But it will take everyone’s help to make it happen. Please join us in the challenge to change.
