* Cody: Utah win sets stage for class action against BCS
Utah, I believe, set the stage for a class-action lawsuit.  It's sad that the only way a true national champion can come about in major college football is through the courts, but if that's what it takes to stop the annual USC post-season, excuse-laden love fest than I'm for it.

Vilma, Saints happy with marriage
Jonathan Vilma didn’t beg his Saints’ coaches to put him in for practice during August two-a-days in Jackson, Miss. But he didn’t exactly make it easy for them to willingly submit to any requests he might have had in regard to getting him into drills after coming off of knee surgery that ended his 2007 early.

Hornets can't match Lakers aggression, fall 100-87
New Orleans couldn’t keep pace with Kobe Bryant and Los Angeles and for the second time this season, the Hornets couldn’t take out the Lakers in a key Western Conference home game. The Hornets fell 100-87, losing for the first time in more than a month.

* Winning more important than NFL record, Payton says
Drew Brees walked into the players’ locker room at the Saints’ Metairie practice facility Monday just as the media was exiting. New Orleans’ possible record-setting quarterback didn’t get a chance to speak about a run at one of the NFL’s legendary marks.

Saints try to avoid becoming Lions' 1st win
Fourteen times in their 42-year history, the Saints have won four or fewer games. Four times New Orleans has won two or fewer games. But winless? Not even New Orleans knows that level of despair.

Byron Scott didn’t hesitate, likely knowing that the question about hosting the Spurs for the time since they knocked New Orleans out of the 2008 playoffs was heading his way at some point Wednesday. The Hornets do, after all, host San Antonio tonight at 8:30 in the New Orleans Arena.

New Orleans pushed its win streak to three games and now have won seven of its past eight after beating Charlotte 105-89 Wednesday night. And still Byron Scott wasn’t happy.

* Forecast: Saints face uphill climb in Chicago
I’m in the minority but I don’t think the cold weather has been a huge factor against the Bears the last two years. The Bears’ pass rush has been incredible at Soldier Field and is the main problem. They have made Drew Brees more uncomfortable than any other team.

* Hornets try to close out 3-game homestand undefeated
The last time New Orleans played Charlotte, something just wasn’t right with the Hornets. Despite being favored and despite being a team that started off 3-0, the Hornets fell 92-89 to Charlotte that night. Oh have things changed since then.

In the past three weeks the Saints have played their best game (Monday night’s deconstruction of the Packers) and worst (the meltdown in Atlanta).

Saints go for 2 in a row
Call it a karmic response to all the injuries and misfortune this year. Call it the first complete game of the season. Call it whatever you want. But New Orleans’ 30-20 win over Kansas City a week ago might just be called a turning point.

Hornets falter in 4th, falling 105-96

* Hornets look to play loose against Kings tonight
Walking out of the locker room Wednesday morning for shoot around, several Hornets were laughing and joking with each other. In other words they were loose. And that might just translate into win tonight when New Orleans (5-4) hosts Sacramento (4-8) in a 7 o’clock game at the Arena.

Saints looking for elusive momentum
METAIRIE ― Momentum is a tricky thing. Just when you think you’ve got it – like, say, after pulling off a big win in London if you’re the Saints ― you don’t, losing big at division-rival Atlanta.

* 11/10/2008

Payton disappointed in Saints thus far
After a rookie quarterback, a first-year coach and a reinvigorated franchise deflated New Orleans in a 34-20 loss, one word continued to creep out of Sean Payton’s mouth in describing not just the defeat to Atlanta, but the Saints’ season.
Commentary: Eerie parallels to Haslett

Poor effort colors Hornets' 87-79 loss
For the first time since May, New Orleans tasted defeat on the basketball floor.

* Saints' McCray set to fill in for injured Grant
METAIRIE ― When the Saints picked up Bobby McCray in the offseason, the thought was to bolster a line that included Charles Grant and Will Smith. At no time could New Orleans have foreseen how much picking up the veteran would aid the team.

Hornets bench giving valuable time, points finally
WESTWEGO ― In many ways, Rasual Butler’s emergence this season – albeit through three games – is indicative of the birth of a bench for New Orleans. A year ago, the Hornets’ ultimate downfall was a thin and unsteady bench.

So Butler, like the rest of his colleagues, set out to get better this summer.

Smith, Muhammad 2-headed monster for Saints defense

The defense accomplished that task, but now comes the real test – shutting down receivers who have had career days against the Saints in the past.

Bush's returns set franchise record; penalties sink Saints
It all seems so silly now, five weeks into the regular season – will Reggie Bush or Lance Moore return punts for the Saints?

After returning two punts for touchdowns in Monday night’s 30-27 loss to Minnesota, any questions about the return game have been put to rest.

Both electrified the 70,015 in the Superdome, and according to quarterback Drew Brees, likely ignited whoops and hollers nationwide

Saints fall at home to Dolphins 14-10 in final preseason game
In a game that meant very little to either team but a lot to a few individuals, New Orleans fell to Miami 14-10 in both teams’ final preseason game.

The final score wasn’t what head coach Sean Payton necessarily was looking for in the last game of the preseason.
